Love. Jesus. Grace. The cross. Christians can talk about these easily. But there are some other topics Christians are a little hesitant to talk about.
We don’t like to talk about things that could cause people pain. We’d rather speak of only the positive things. Of redemption. And grace.
And we should talk a lot about those things! They mean everything. Without God’s love, grace and redemption, we’re lost.
But we also can’t lose sight of other things, such as justice and the consequences of the choices we make in a fallen world. Yet Jesus spoke often about these tough subjects below:
1. Hell – I guess Rob Bell isn’t the only one who wants to skirt around the issue of hell. Most Christians would rather not talk about it. But The Bible talks a lot about hell.
2. Sin – We’d rather not have to declare certain behaviors “sin.” We’d rather call them “mistakes.” But these terms are not the same, as Michael Hyatt points out.
3. Death – People in general don’t want to talk about death. But The Bible says death will happen. We know it will happen, but we’d rather not talk about it until it’s too late.
4. Satan – Call him The Devil or Satan, this person has been in so many movies, literature and Halloween costumes that we’ve put the reality of him on the shelf. But he’s real.
We need to be honest and discuss these things before we have to face the loss of a loved one or a terminal illness. And without the concept of sin, we just see ourself making mistakes rather than sin, the more serious affront to God.
What else do we as Christians not want to talk about?
