The Bible verse you don’t want to read

A+ Grade on Homework

There’s one verse in the Bible that I read while battling stage IV cancer that really thumped me over the head. It presented quite a challenge to me at the time. Here’s the verse from 2 Chronicles 32:21:

“But when envoys were sent by the rulers of Babylon to ask him about the miraculous sign that had occurred in the land, God left him to test him and to know everything that was in his heart.”

Did you catch that? God left Hezekiah to test him to know what he really believed about God. Most of the time, we hear preachers and teachers tell us that “God is always with you.” And that’s true.

But life is a test and a trust. For those who believe in God, he won’t leave you forever but there may be a time when you are tested. Don’t worry about failing.

When Jesus was arrested, all the apostles were left alone. Peter didn’t pass the test but it’s great that Jesus understood and “reinstated” him. And he did pass future tests and tradition has it he was crucified for his faith.

When you face hard times, consider it a challenge. God is with you but when he appears to be silent, that’s your time to shine and pass the test with an A+ by holding on to your faith.

Know that God is good. He wants the best for you and ultimately, we’ll live in heaven and the New Earth for a lot longer than this world. These “light and momentary troubles” can’t be compared to what’s in store for us in eternity.

Have you ever had a time when you felt like God was testing you?

Bible verses to stand on during tough times

rope

When you’re struggling through tough times, you need a solid rope to pull you out. That rope is the truth and promises of the Bible.

When I was going through chemotherapy for stage IV cancer, I honestly wasn’t sure I would live. I started reading the Bible with much more urgency, looking for the insight that would help me.

And I found plenty, like these verses that strengthened my faith.

It’s easy to just read uplifting verses and then turn around and forget them or not really trust in what is said. But it’s something you simply have to believe in, just like you believe that gravity will hold you down and that the sun will rise today.

Here are two verses that you must simply believe in with all your heart. If you really internalize the truths below, you will feel more confident and more secure in your future, despite what tough time you are going through.

I consider that our present sufferings are not worth comparing with the glory that will be revealed in us. (Romans 8:18)

[Whatever suffering you are going through now will pale in comparison to our lives when we are with God in the New Heaven and Earth. Randy Alcorn's book Heaven does a great job explaining what this will be like.]

For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all. (2 Corinthians 4:17)

[This verse confirms what Paul previously said. There are many more verses like these but two should be sufficient. Stand firm!]

Do you have any verses that give you strength and confidence during tough times?
