There’s one verse in the Bible that I read while battling stage IV cancer that really thumped me over the head. It presented quite a challenge to me at the time. Here’s the verse from 2 Chronicles 32:21:
“But when envoys were sent by the rulers of Babylon to ask him about the miraculous sign that had occurred in the land, God left him to test him and to know everything that was in his heart.”
Did you catch that? God left Hezekiah to test him to know what he really believed about God. Most of the time, we hear preachers and teachers tell us that “God is always with you.” And that’s true.
But life is a test and a trust. For those who believe in God, he won’t leave you forever but there may be a time when you are tested. Don’t worry about failing.
When Jesus was arrested, all the apostles were left alone. Peter didn’t pass the test but it’s great that Jesus understood and “reinstated” him. And he did pass future tests and tradition has it he was crucified for his faith.
When you face hard times, consider it a challenge. God is with you but when he appears to be silent, that’s your time to shine and pass the test with an A+ by holding on to your faith.
Know that God is good. He wants the best for you and ultimately, we’ll live in heaven and the New Earth for a lot longer than this world. These “light and momentary troubles” can’t be compared to what’s in store for us in eternity.
Have you ever had a time when you felt like God was testing you?
